Collaborating to Launch a Sustainable Compliance Package

Keystone Folding Box Co. (www.keyboxco.com), a manufacturer of paperboard packaging, has introduced Ecoslide-RX, a compliance package made from 100% recyclable material. Using unbleached paperboard with a clay-coated surface, Ecoslide-RX was developed to support blister packages employing a minimal amount of film and foil, explains Ward Smith, director of marketing for Keystone. The secondary package can be used for a child-resistant (F=1), senior-friendly compliance solution.

As new studies demonstrate substantial impact of compliance-prompting designs on patient adherence, packagers and marketers need to develop more in-depth understanding of what influences patients, presenters said at the RxAdherence conference in New Brunswick, NJ.
 
Healthcare reform priorities--and a national awareness program launching this week--are among trends focusing attention on the chronic and costly issue of patient non-compliance, speakers said.
 
“It’s pretty clear packaging has been grossly underestimated,” said Dr. Ted Lithgow, president and chief science officer, MWV (Meadwestvaco) Healthcare. Lithgow reported on an MWV study of 3.1 million patients that compared traditional vials with MWV’s Shellpack.

New Catalent Study Shows Adherence Packaging Drives Substantial Gains In Patient Persistence

Catalent Pharma Solutions announced today the results of an independent study in which unit-dose patient adherence packaging was associated with a 17-point increase in patient persistency to a drug over 12 months, as compared to conventional 30-count bottle packaging.
