Bilcare Research AG has named packaging industry expert Kevin Stevens as its new president and managing director in the United States Stevens will lead the global company’s U.S. subsidiary from the affiliate headquarters in Delaware City, DE. He brings more than 25 years of experience in the pharmaceutical packaging industry in a variety of roles.
Uhlmann Packaging Systems LP has introduced the BLU 400 Blister Machine, which is specifically designed for the secondary packaging of liquid dose products such as ampoules, syringes, vials, cartridges, and bottles. The BLU 400 includes safety functions to protect against heat, breakage, or mix-ups for even the most susceptible products, according to the company.
TASI Test & Inspection, a technology provider in leak detection systems, visual and functional package testing, inspection, and monitoring equipment, will be showing products from its three brands ALPS, Sepha, and Bonfiglioi Engineering at Pack/Pharma Expo in Las Vegas Sept. 28-30. Sepha’s machine VisionScan Max, a tool-less, non-destructive leak-detection device for pharmaceutical blister packs, made its debut at ACHEMA in Frankfurt in June.
The Romaco Group boasts coming away from a successful ACHEMA 2015 in Frankfurt, having exhibited its complete portfolio from granulation, tableting, coating, and primary and secondary packaging of pharmaceutical solids. The company showcased its remote assist system on the blister line and its newest brand, Innojet, was shortlisted for the Innovation Award 2015.
Sepha Ltd. will premiere what the company touts as the world's first automated, tool-less, and non-destructive leak-detection device for pharmaceutical blister packs at ACHEMA in Frankfurt, Germany from June 15-19. Sepha claims VisionScan Max gives pharmaceutical manufacturers the ability to deliver “significant” quality improvements and cost savings during production.
The device has been designed to integrate with blister production lines via automated “pick and place” technologies to further enhance automation and minimize operator requirements, or operate as a standalone unit.
Pharmaceutical manufacturers are ready for new blister packaging materials, believes Georgia Mohr, Marketing Director – Pharmaceutical, for Bemis Healthcare Packaging. “Engineers are asking for new materials, but they are also concerned about costs,” she says. Bemis will be exhibiting at Pharmapack North America in Booth 4001.
Pharmaworks vice president and sales director Ben Brower reports that 2013 was filled with an interesting mix of healthcare product packaging challenges. “We’ve put almost anything you can think of in a blister,” he says. While the company has traditionally supplied blister forming machinery for pharmaceutical solid doses, last year it worked on a number of projects involving powders, liquids, and even medical devices. “These companies looked to the pharmaceutical blister platform for packaging solutions,” Brower says.
NEHI, a national health policy institute seeking to identify strategies to improve health care quality and lower health care costs, has released a national medication adherence agenda. Compliance packaging could play a role in the agenda’s priorities put forth by NEHI for public and private policymakers.
NEHI points out that the U.S. Congressional Budget Office claimed that a 5% increase in the number of prescriptions used by Medicare patients would result in a 1 percent decrease in their medical and hospital spending.
