Alcan Packaging, a business unit of Rio Tinto Alcan, launched its global Sustainability Moments campaign on June 5, World Environment Day.
“This internal campaign is intended to increase awareness and educate employees about sustainability throughout the next year. Sustainability is a core value for Alcan Packaging, and we hope this will inspire all our employees to organize activities that will positively contribute to our communities and the environment,” said Jean-Christophe Deslarzes, president and chief executive officer, Downstream Aluminium Businesses and Alcan Packaging.
In addition to participating in local environmental events, employees at various Alcan locations played the company's Sustainability Challenge educational game, which has already been played at several trade shows to encourage discussion about environmental, social, and economic aspects of sustainability.
“We are confident that each of our sectors will respond to our communities’ challenges with the energy and enthusiasm we’ve come to expect, and create memorable and impactful sustainability moments,” said Michael Rubenstein, chief growth and innovation officer, Alcan Packaging.
World Environment Day was the first moment of the awareness campaign; future activities are planned throughout the year.
Alcan Packaging is a global leader in specialty packaging, offering solutions to customers around the world for the pharmaceutical, beauty, and other markets.
According to the United Nations Environment Programme, World Environment Day was established in 1972 by the United Nations General Assembly to mark the opening of the Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment.
