James Alexander Corp. (Blairs-town, NJ) is expanding its facility in Frelinghuysen, NJ. The manufacturer and contract packager of unit-dose dispensing systems has broken ground on the project, which will increase the size of the facility from 20,000 to 30,000 sq ft. It is scheduled for completion by December 2006. The existing facility was established in 1984.
AstraZeneca (Wilmington, DE) has selected the TIPS serialized product tracking solution, provided by Systech International (Cranbury, NJ), as part of a global initiative the company is engaging in to address authentication and to combat counterfeiting of pharmaceutical drugs. AstraZeneca will add 2-D Data Matrix bar code serialization to its product security initiatives in an effort to increase patient safety.
The initiative is a multiphase project designed to protect key brands wherever they are manufactured and distributed. The first phases of the project involve providing 25 packaging lines with anticounterfeiting solutions across 12 sites around the world. TIPS is designed to supply mass serialization of products at the item, case, and pallet levels to facilitate e-pedigree, authentication, and track-and-trace operations. Serialization using electronic product codes on RFID labels and bar codes is completed on the packaging line and is integrated with existing packaging operations.
