Alcan Inc. (Montreal, QC, Canada) has completed the acquisition of VAW Flexible Packaging from Norsk Hydro for approximately e345 million. The acquisition enhances Alcan�s global leadership position in packaging by adding a leading producer of flexible packaging to its portfolio. 


Optel Vision (Quebec, QC, Canada) has won the Supplier of the Year Award for excellence in innovation. Nominated by Aventis Pharma, the company was selected among 30 finalists chosen from 700 suppliers in different areas, including packaging.

Cardinal Health (Dublin, OH) is more than doubling its sterile manufacturing capacity on the West Coast to accommodate growing demand from the biotechnology industry for sterile product development. The company is expanding its West Coast operation with an additional 70,000-sq-ft facility in San Diego, CA.

Alga Plastics (Cranston, RI) has formed a strategic alliance with Vitalo Plastics of Meulebeke, Belgium. The Alga/Vitalo partnership will combine the engineering, design, tooling, and manufacturing resources of both companies to better serve customers.

Sparta Systems Inc. (Holmdel, NJ), an enterprise tracking software developer and service company, has received a vendor audit score of 100% compliance with 21 CFR Part 11. The vendor audit was conducted by a major pharmaceutical company following the Parenteral Drug Association process model.

Carl D. Marotta, president of Tolas Health Care Packaging Group (Feasterville, PA), has been named Exporter of the Year for Eastern Pennsylvania. The Philadelphia Office of the United States Small Business Administration and the Advocates for Small Business selected Marotta for the award because of his efforts in expanding worldwide markets resulting in increased sales and employment levels.
