Barrier Materials for Flow Wrapping
Flow wrapping is often being used as secondary packaging for pharmaceuticals and combination drug-device products. “Flow wrapping has been around forever in food packaging,” says Georgia Mohr, market development director–pharmaceutical segment, Perfecseal. “But metallized films with high oxygen barrier can now be engineered for flow wrapping. The materials need to have the ability to meet high-speed packaging demands of up to 300 units per minute. The sealant has to function in a high-speed sealing environment.”
Perfecseal offers its 200 Series for flow wrap packaging. Both PerfecPharm P202, metallized film lamination, and PerfecPharm P230, foil lamination, have formulated sealant layers that meet the demands for high-speed flow packaging equipment. These laminations, designed specifically for flow wrap applications, offer broad sealing windows and good hot tack that is needed to achieve high speed efficiencies.
Flow wrapping can be used for inhalers, diagnostic cards, blister pack bundling, and prefilled syringes.
