The robotic monoblock Unica, which integrates deep-draw thermoforming, robotic pick-and-place transfer, and carton packaging operations, was displayed at Pack Expo International by Marchesini Group. Taking up only a small footprint of 26.5 ft, the system can be used to package syringes, vials, and carpules as well as small containers, tubes, and dispensers.
A company representative tells PMP News that Unica can also be used for sterile medical thermoformed packaging.
The Institute of Packaging Professionals has announced the winners of its 2013 AmeriStar Package Awards Competition, and among the winners is a thermoformed tray system featuring one novel component. The TKA Femoral Packaging System for Arthrex uses Perfecseal’s new PerfecForm OrthoSecure, a new material combining both polyurethane (PU) and PETG in one two-layer formable film, instead of using a separate PU insert, minimizing the number of package components.
Prent Corp. has won a WorldStar Award for a custom thermoformed medical package, which is helping one global device manufacturer cut the time needed to deliver life-saving procedures to a hemorrhaging patient.
A study was conducted recently to determine whether packaging styles influence the shopping behaviors of consumers. Klöckner Pentaplast worked with Clemson University to compare consumer reactions to clear plastic clamshells with those to printed paperboard boxes. Eye-tracking research was conducted at Clemson University’s CUShop in a recreated shopping environment.
