One Size Fits All in Redesign

A small thermoformed clamshell for Wright Medical’s complete line of implant screws has earned Barger, a division of Placon, a 2013 AmeriStar award. The result of a collaboration between the two companies, the clamshell can be used to package about 350 SKUs and can be used for both sterile and nonsterile presentations.

Developed to be a universal solution for a family of existing components, Wright Medical’s Extremities Clamshell replaces a variety of previously used packaging materials, including poly-bags, urethane/silicon-type end caps, and even foam.

HealthPack Europe 2012 Focuses On Global Medical Device Packaging

HealthPack Europe 2012 will take place at the Burlington Hotel in Dublin, Ireland, on December 3-4. The conference  is dedicated to international medical device packaging challenges and innovations.

Oliver-Tolas Expands Michigan Facility

Oliver-Tolas Healthcare Packaging announced a $1.3 million investment in its Grand Rapids, Michigan facility. The investment includes a manufacturing area expansion, additional cleanroom installations, and the modernization and expansion of its Packaging Development and Technology Center.
  
The manufacturing area expansion adds 40,000 sq ft to the existing 140,000 sq ft of production space.

Medical Design Excellence Awards Salute Innovative Medical Products, Packaging

The winning medical product and packaging designs were announced at the recent MD&M East event in Philadelphia.

The winning products in this year's MDEA competition, presented by UBM Canon, were announced at a presentation ceremony held May 23 inside the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown hotel. The ceremony was held in conjunction with the MD&M East Event )at the adjacent Pennsylvania Convention Center.

Access Scientific Reveals Data on IV Catheter Safety, Patient Satisfaction

The company reports its POWERWAND peripheral IV catheter has met with favorable response and demonstrated a high degree of safety.

The POWERWAND (from Access Scientific Inc., San Diego), an extended-dwell peripheral IV catheter (PIV), substantially outperforms other catheters in both patient satisfaction and safety, according to a presentation at the recent annual meeting of the Infusion Nurses Society (INS).

The presentation was by Teresa Darst, RN, Director of Vascular Access at Huguley Memorial Medical Center. Huguley (Burleson, Texas) was the first hospital in the nation to fully implement the new technology.

New Carton Lets Staff Quickly Identify Latex-content Gloves

The labeling enables medical staff to quickly identify the latex content of gloves, to avoid allergic and potentially life-threatening reactions.

MUNDELEIN, Ill. (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Healthcare employees work in a fast-paced environment where even the simplest mistakes can have serious consequences – like accidently using a latex exam glove when the worker or patient has a latex allergy. Long-Dwell Flow Wrapper Supports Device Packaging

Flow wrapping has gained support as a cost-effective automated alternative for medical device packaging. Vendors including Amcor and Perfecseal have introduced films for device packaging engineered to perform on high-speed flow wrapping machines.
For applications sealing thicker substrates used in device packaging, Bosch Packaging Technology (www.boschpackaging.com) introduced at Pack Expo Las Vegas the Pack 301 LD (long dwell) horizontal flow wrapper. The unit produces up to 150 packs per minute.
