Contracter Selects X-Ray and Checkweighers
Omrom (Schaumburg, IL) offers a trifecta of new advantages with the latest versions of its compact E5GN temperature controllers for small machines. The upgrades support increased indication accuracy and a faster sampling rate.
Banner Engineering (Minneapolis, MN) has introduced what it calls the first industrial touch screen bar code reader, the iVu BCR (Bar Code Reader). Suitable for mounting on or above a packaging line conveyor, the compact, rugged device allows users to set up and monitor complex applications without a PC or external controller. It employs an intuitive interface, reducing operator training time.
For years, users of linear bar codes have been able to do something 2-D bar codes users haven’t—confirm the accuracy of bar code verification systems through the use of a Calibrated Conformance Standard Test Card (CCSTC). These cards can be used for verifier calibration but are principally designed as a tool to test a verifier for conformance as per ISO/IEC specifications. In December, however, GS1 US announced the availability of the ISO/IEC Data Matrix and GS1 DataMatrix CCSTC, featuring 2-D bar code symbols of exact dimensional and reflectance values.
Three machine vision trade associations have agreed to develop global industry standards. Leaders from the Automated Imaging Association (AIA), European Machine Vision Association (EMVA), and Japan Industrial Imaging Association (JIIA) today signed an agreement to cooperatively develop and promote global machine vision standards in Stuttgart Germany during the Vision trade fair.
Coesia Group, controlling a multinational portfolio of automated machinery businesses in different industries, has combined the expertise of two of its sister companies, G.D and Laetus, to develop C-TTS, a track and trace solution for pharmaceutical packaging applications. With G.D’s knowledge of complex IT solutions in packaging machines and Laetus’ experience in packaging security solutions in the pharmaceutical sector, a competent team was established.

First Priority, a manufacturer of generic veterinary pharmaceutical products, implemented Global Vision's automated inspection solutions in an effort to reduce costs without compromising efficiencies and quality of their products.
First Priority previously spent significant amounts of time and manpower manually proofreading all labels, inserts, and secondary packaging. In addition, proofreaders had difficulty determining proper font sizes, transposition of characters, and foreign language spelling errors. Finally, they experienced inspector fatigue.
Symetix (Walla Walla, WA) is offering a new compact high-volume optical inspection system for verifying solid dose pharmaceuticals and nutraceuticals. VeriSym occupies half the floor space of other bulk inspection systems with similar throughput and resolution.
