Glenroy Inc. Launches First Flexible Packaging Smartphone App

Glenroy Inc., a converter and printer of flexible packaging film, is proud to announce the launch of the first-ever flexible packaging smartphone application. The app, which is available as a free download in the Android market, allows users to quickly calculate commonly used flexible packaging specifications. These specifications include roll weight, roll footage, roll diameter, basis weight and yield.

AmerisourceBergen Appoints President and Chief Operating Officer

AmerisourceBergen Corp. elects Steven H. Collis, 49, to the role of president and chief operating officer. Mr. Collis was executive vice president of AmerisourceBergen and president of AmerisourceBergen Drug Corp.

Before that he was executive vice president of AmerisourceBergen and President of AmerisourceBergen Specialty Group. He continues to report directly to R. David Yost, AmerisourceBergen's CEO. Before the election of Mr. Collis, Mr. Yost also held the title of president.

Newer, clear, high-barrier films offer cost-effective solutions for pouch packaging of sensitive drug and device products. As alternatives to foil structures, clear films enable end users to see the packaged product.
In addition, when foil is replaced by film, foil’s interference with vision systems, metal detectors, and RFID readers is eliminated, says Dhuanne Dodrill, president, Rollprint Packaging Products (Addison, IL).

TOPAS Announces New COC Elastomer

TOPAS Advanced Polymers Inc. (Florence, KY) announces the development of the industry’s first cyclic olefin copolymer (COC) elastomer. These highly flexible developmental grades are targeted as a high-performance alternative to traditional flexible materials for a broad range of applications such as medical devices, specialty pharmaceutical packaging, and medical tubing.
 

Printpack Enters the Medical Packaging Market

Printpack Inc., a flexible packaging and specialty rigid container manufacturer, announced today that it has purchased the Marshall, NC manufacturing location of Amcor’s Medical Packaging group. The sale was required by the U. S. Department of Justice upon Amcor’s acquisition of Alcan’s Medical Flexibles business. The Marshall facility manufactures films that are converted into header bags and forming films for sterilizable medical devices. The terms of the transaction were not disclosed. 

Glenroy Inc. Receives Four PIW Graphics Excellence Awards

Glenroy Inc. won four Graphics Excellence Awards from Printing Industries of Wisconsin in the 2010 Graphics Excellence competition. The statewide printing competition recognizes cutting-edge, top-quality printing. Competing alongside nearly 800 printing and graphic arts firms within Wisconsin, Glenroy received four awards including a "Best of Category" award and three "Awards of Excellence."
 

Providing Volumes of Information in a Pouch

Lauraville Packaging LLC (Syracuse, NY) exhibited its solutions at EastPack for encapsulating flat items such as booklets, pamphlets, and others into adhesive-backed pouches for application to flat packages. The filled pouches, which can be provided in rolls or fan folded in cartons, can be applied by a label applicator to packaging.

OYSTAR Implements Global Growth Plan

OYSTAR Group’s (Davenport, IA) newly completed realignment emphasizes customer service and continued global growth. The plan is aimed at strengthening its customer focus and increasing its global presence without affecting the existing strategies and focuses of the Group’s American businesses, which include OYSTAR Packaging Technologies, OYSTAR Jones, and OYSTAR USA.

Ampac Debuts Front-Panel Zippered Pouch

 

Ampac Flexibles has launched a reclosable, stand-up pouch that situates the zipper on the pouch’s front panel. In the Easy Zip Pouch, the user pulls a tab to access the zipper located below the header.
Packagers do not have to fill through a zipper and users don’t have to struggle with getting to the zipper through the top of the package.
