Daily Dosage Bottles Chosen for Victrelis

In May, FDA approved Merck’s new treatment for chronic hepatitis C (CHC), Victrelis (boceprevir). The drug is approved for the treatment of CHC genotype 1 infection, in combination with peginterferon alfa and ribavirin, in adult patients (18 years of age and older) with compensated liver disease, including cirrhosis, who are previously untreated or who have failed previous interferon and ribavirin therapy, according to Merck.

Berlin Packaging Recertified to ISO 9001:2008

Berlin Packaging LLC has announced that it has been recertified to the ISO 9001:2008 standard from Perry Johnson Registrar. The supplier of plastic, glass, and metal containers and closures reports that it has had seven consecutive years of monthly 99+% on-time delivery of its warehouse shipments and 25 months of 99+% on-spec product quality. 

New Force in Contract Packaging

Four contract packaging and repackaging companies in the pharmaceutical industry have joined forces to create a new, single-source service provider, Aphena Pharma Solutions (www.aphenapharma.com).

Aphena is a new corporation based on a strategic alliance among Celeste Contract Packaging, PrePak Systems, TestPak, and Integrated Pharmaceutical Packaging.

Oystar Bundles U.S. Business

The Oystar Group has bundled its U.S. business under a single corporate umbrella. With immediate effect, the previous U.S. subsidiaries Oystar Jones (Covington, KY), Oystar USA (Edison, NJ) and Oystar Packaging Technologies (Davenport, IA) will now have a uniform corporate appearance as “Oystar North America.”

As sensitive ethical and OTC ingredients are driving interest in bottle barrier technology, driving cost out of containers is an ongoing priority for customers.
Though proprietary cap and bottle systems have come to market in recent years offering novel safety and convenient opening features, standard designs are open to reevaluation.
An innovative twist on an old standard can capture consumer loyalty while holding container costs in check.
Lightweighting is another option for cost control.

Alpha Packaging Plans New Bottle Options

Alpha Packaging (www.alphap.com) has continued its growth track with the purchase of Progressive Plastics (Cleveland, OH) a manufacturer of PET, HDPE, PP, and PVC containers.
Acquired in September 2010 by Irving Place Capital, Alpha has quadrupled in size over the past decade through acquisitions and organic growth to a $138 million company with seven plants.

Updated packaging for Chloraseptic Sore Throat Spray won a silver award in the health and beauty category at the New Jersey Packaging Executives Club’s 32nd Annual Package of the Year Awards.
Prestige Brands had approached TricorBraun (www.tricorbraun.com) in July 2008 looking to revitalize the look of the leading OTC. “The challenge was to update the design from the recognized triangular shaped bottle while retaining consumer recognition and meetings today’s retail shelf demands,” says Jennifer Nicosia, packaging consultant, TricorBraun.
