Bristol-Myers Squibb Co. today announced that YERVOY (ipilimumab), a novel immunotherapy and the first medicine approved for unresectable or metastatic melanoma in more than a decade, received the Prix Galien USA 2012 Award for Best Biotechnology Product. The award, which is selected by a preeminent scientific committee that includes several Nobel Laureates, recognizes the technical, scientific and clinical research skills and achievements necessary to develop innovative medicines and devices and is considered the most prestigious prize in biopharmaceutical research and development.

Vetter has been awarded first place for the category Most Improved Manufacturing Project or Process at this year’s European Outsourcing Awards. The application for the company’s new high-speed filling line for pre-sterilized syringes was the top choice among the jury of experts due to its intelligent concepts and systems. The award was given to the company at a gala dinner on October 10, during the CPHI Worldwide/iCSE show in Madrid.

MeadWestvaco Corporation, a global leader in packaging solutions, today announced that its medication adherence solution Shellpak Renew received the Best Sustainable Pharmaceutical Packaging award at the 23rd CPhI Worldwide event in Madrid, Spain. Modeled after MWV’s original Shellpak design, Shellpak Renew was adapted based on customer research to deliver key patient improvements: decreased weight and size, and including an environmentally-friendly, curbside recyclable outer carton. MWV was one of six finalists that presented to the judging panel.

Microscan, a global leader in technology for precision data acquisition and control solutions, announces that its C-mount design QX Hawk barcode imager has won a 2012 Ringier Technology Innovation Award in the Packaging Industry category. Microscan’s Weijiang Song accepted the award during a ceremony in Shanghai. This event was co-organized by Ringier Trade Media and its magazine International Packaging News for China, together with ProPak China 2012.

Leading events organiser, UBM Live, today announced that it has expanded its annual CPhI Pharma Awards with the introduction of a Best Sustainable Packaging award category for 2012. The new category will recognise one exhibitor that delivered a specific material, process, or piece of equipment in 2011 that enabled Pharma companies to achieve a more sustainable package or process.

On June 18, SynCardia Systems, Inc., manufacturer of the world's first and only FDA, Health Canada and CE (Europe) approved Total Artificial Heart, was honored with two Gold Stevie® Awards at the 10th Annual American Business Awards. SynCardia won "Company of the Year – Health Products and Services" and "Most Innovative Company of the Year – up to 100 Employees."

The winning products in this year's MDEA competition, presented by UBM Canon, were announced at a presentation ceremony held May 23 inside the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown hotel. The ceremony was held in conjunction with the MD&M East Event )at the adjacent Pennsylvania Convention Center.
