Medical Tactile Launches Wireless Breast Cancer Screening System

The product is designed to offer a low-cost, non-invasive screening method for clinical use in developing countries.

Medical Tactile, Inc. (MTI), with the support of The Pre-Mammogram Foundation and Qualcomm Incorporated, today announced that they have developed a pre-commercial SureTouch Wireless system that uses 3G-enabled tactile sensor technology for breast cancer screening.

Bayer Challenges Generic License for Cancer Drug

The drugmaker has filed an objection to a patent allowing a competitor to sell a generic version of its Nexavar cancer treatment.

Drugmaker Bayer has filed an appeal against an Indian Patents Office's order, which allowed domestic drugmaker Natco Pharma to sell a generic version of the German firm's cancer drug 'Nexavar' in India, with the Intellectual Property Appellate Board. In March this year, the government had invoked a law permitting Hyderabad-based Natco Pharma to manufacture and sell cancer-treatment drug Nexavar at a price over 30 times lower than charged by its patent-holder Bayer Corporation.

Abbott announced today it has acquired an exclusive license for several novel biomarkers from Stanford University for use in developing a molecular diagnostic test that could satisfy a longstanding unmet medical need: differentiating aggressive from nonaggressive prostate cancer.

Closure of PG545 Phase 1a Clinical Trial

 
Brisbane, Australia, 20th September 2011-Progen Pharmaceuticals Ltd (ASX:PGL, OTC:PGLA) announced today that the current Phase 1a PG545 human clinical trial in advanced cancer patients has been put on hold due to unexpected local injection site reactions seen in patients.
 
 
These reactions appear to be a very specific side effect in humans and were not seen to this extent in the extensive preclinical animal testing of the drug.
