McKesson Opens Distribution Center in Virginia

The facility, expected to create 150 jobs, recently opened its doors at a ceremony attended by the lt. governor and other officials.

Lieutenant Governor Bolling today participated in McKesson Corporation's Grand Opening event in Ruther Glen, VA. McKesson Corporation, a healthcare services and information technology company, is investing about $50 million to establish distribution operations in Caroline County. The project is creating 150 new jobs. The company will distribute pharmaceuticals and health care products to independent retail, national retail accounts and institutional accounts. Virginia successfully competed against Maryland and Pennsylvania for the project.

ROC IT Solutions reports that a major pharmaceutical manufacturer has upgraded its implementation of ROC IT Solutions technology for track and trace in Turkey. The company's distribution center in Turkey first deployed ROC IT Solutions software in 2009 to meet the Turkish Ministry of Health (MoH) directive for item-level serialization and upgraded after its parent company began using a newer version of ROC IT solutions in the United States.

Accuristix Acquires Nova Pack Ltd.

Accuristix has acquired Nova Pack Ltd., a contract packaging, repackaging, and assembly provider for over-the-counter (OTC), health and beauty, healthcare, and pharmaceutical products. Accuristix is a third-party logistics company currently operating four distribution centers in the Toronto Area, with others in Vancouver and Los Angeles. The acquisition allows both companies to offer a broader scope of services to the Canadian healthcare marketplace.

COMAR Announces Acquisition of Universal Container Corporation

Comar Inc. (Buena, NJ) announced that on Fri., April 16, 2010 it finalized a transaction acquiring 100% of Universal Container Corp.'s (Unicon) assets from its current shareholders. Based in Cayey, Puerto Rico, Unicon is a leading manufacturer of high quality injection molded, injection blow molded, and extrusion blow molded parts and containers. Comar, based in Buena, New Jersey, is a manufacturer of proprietary pharmaceutical packaging with a leadership position in the Liquid Medication Delivery Device Market. The transaction closed on April 16, 2010 and the terms were not disclosed.

Unclear Rules Aren't Holding Up Transport Tests

Distribution testing requirements can often be unclear, but a majority of medical device professionals perform and validate such tests, a recent survey found. Marci-Ann Ando from Celera Diagnostics presented survey results during MD&M West 2006’s packaging validation conference. Ando conducted the survey as part of her master’s project for Michigan State University.

Bayer Unleashes New Case Erectors

The distribution department at Bayer HealthCare’s Animal Health Division Plant (Shawnee, KS) is now producing about 3000 boxes a day in ten different sizes, reports Larry Geivett, distribution supervisor. Two years ago, the firm invested in two Lantech case erectors and has since seen a fourfold increase in the number of orders shipped per day. The plant is the second largest in the company’s global animal health division, producing a wide variety of antimicrobials, parasiticides, and basic care products for dogs, cats, horses and livestock.
