The Medical Design Excellence Awards program is accepting entries for its 2011 competition from companies and individuals worldwide involved in the design, engineering, manufacture, or distribution of finished medical devices or packaging products. The program is presented by Canon Communications, the leading producer of face-to-face, digital, print, and online business acceleration products for the worldwide medical device industry and sponsored by MD+DI magazine.
Innovative bottles and closures, based on proprietary designs and technologies, add value to pharmaceutical brands. New design trends are on the rise, such as senior-friendly packaging and smart packaging, while environmentally friendly initiatives keep products lightweight and contaminant free. Although crucial packaging decisions continue to be based heavily on the safety needs of patients and patient compliance, conservative regulatory and economic environments have presented some hurdles in the adoption and application of high-end trends.
One good design can flow into another. Comar (Buena, NJ) demonstrated such design evolution during its recent “Lunch and Learn” seminar series, which kicked off in March in Del Mar, CA. The maker of drug-delivery technologies explained how some of their designs have evolved into others in order to meet customer needs.
