NuSil Technology LLC has wrapped up the fourth phase of its expansion in Bakersfield, CA, adding a fourth building to the 15-acre campus. President and CFO Scott Mraz celebrated the achievement during a ribbon-cutting Saturday, November 10, attended by 150 NuSil employees and guests. The ongoing expansion plan will result in a total of seven buildings at the facility.
“The expansion at Bakersfield is a long-term strategic decision for NuSil to help facilitate and maintain the growth of the company,” said Mraz in a press release. “Our goal is to increase capacity with the best available manufacturing technology, and we have made significant investments in new energy-efficient buildings and prngs and processes to accomplish this goal.”
NuSil supplies silicone materials to pharmaceutical and medical packaging providers as well as manufacturers of medical implants, healthcare, aerospace and defense, electronics and engineering, and skin care products.
The new building provides 35,000 sq ft primarily for Quality Assurance (QA) and an enlarged QA testing laboratory, along with extended floor space for Research and Development (R&D) at another onsite location. The company seeks to more than double the footprint of Research and Development to enhance the continued development of new siloxane technology. In addition, the building will serve as a corporate center for the Bakersfield facility’s human resources and engineering departments.
NuSil also recently began the fifth phase of the expansion, with two new buildings and an additional 80,000 square feet of manufacturing space scheduled to be completed in 2013 and 2015. These buildings will increase production capacity to support growing demands across all of NuSil’s business units.
