At Pharmapack, exhibitors will be displaying technologies that echo some of the packaging themes discussed in the technical conferences. For instance, Constantia Hueck Folien (Germany) in Booth C15 will present its new aluminum-free films. Speakers Stefan Frischmann, head of product development in pharma/healthcare, and Dr. Dirk Kaczmarek, head of R&D, will be describing the new films as offering an “adaptable peeling behavior.” The new films can be used for pharmaceutical packaging and pouches.

Erich Pfeiffer GmbH (Germany) in Booth D33 offers a variety of nasal, oral, and topical product delivery systems for pharmaceuticals. New products include an advanced preservative-free multidose system for the application of preservative-free solutions via the nasal route. The product prevents bacteriological contamination of the drug. Speaker Matthias Birkhoff, director of business development, will explain existing technologies available for both preserved and unpreserved ophthalmic preparations as well as the technology behind a mechanical dispensing multidose device. The paper shows details of how ophthalmic solutions can be kept sterile during use, plus whether and how the systems are compatible with current filling technologies.
Speaker Michiel van den Berg, director of global pharmaceutical packaging development for Tekni-Plex (Belgium), exhibiting in Booth D35, will discuss the company’s new autoclavable flexible clear sheet film utilizing polyolefin-based compounds and a specific extrusion technology. Applications include pharmaceutical and medical IV bags, dialysis solution bags, or nutritional bags for enteral feeding. Tekni-Plex reports that the films offer improved appearance over polypropylene-based sheet film; they also provide alternatives to PVC films.
