Prefilled Syringe Manufacturer Recognized with Excellence Award
A manufacturer of prefilled syringes has been recognized for differentiating itself among its competitors in Europe. Nuova Ompi - Stevanato Group was honored with the "Europe Product Differentiation Excellence Award for Prefillable Syringes" from Frost & Sullivan. Frost & Sullivan is a global research organization that tracks more than 300 industries and 250,000 companies with a team of more than 1800 analysts.
According to Frost & Sullivan's report, "With the exception of Nuova Ompi, none of the other PFS [prefilled syringe] suppliers possess the capacity to design and manufacture syringe assembly machinery. The group's Optrel unit manufactures inspection machines for containers. This capacity enables Nuova Ompi to meet the specific dimensional requirements of its customers." continued
Making Drug Delivery Safer
Needlestick safety legislation is spreading throughout Europe. On March 8, the European Union Employment and Social Affairs Ministers adopted a Directive to protect its 3.5 million healthcare workers from needlesticks and other sharps-related injuries. The new directive implements in law a framework agreement signed in July 2009 by the European Public Services Union and the European Hospital and Healthcare Employers' Association. Full compliance for all healthcare employers is unlikely to be imposed until mid to late 2012.
"Due to the new legislation in Europe, disposable auto injectors and safety shield devices are becoming extremely important now," says Sheila Dell, Ph.D., vice president of business development, Catalent Pharma Solutions (Somerset, NJ). "We've been finding that some of our customers are still not aware of the new legislation, which requires all prefilled syringes to have a safety shield device," she says. continued
Plan to Attend Pharmapack and BIOMEDevice in 2011
Pharmapack and BIOMEDevice will be held February 23–24, 2011, in La Grande Halle de la Villette, Paris, France. Now together as an annual co-located event, Pharmapack focuses on pharmaceutical packaging and drug-delivery innovations, while BIOMEDevice narrows in on the development of combination products. The events complement each other nicely, given the convergence of medical device, biopharmaceutical, and pharmaceutical technologies for delivering next-generation drug-delivery systems.
Two full days of concurrent conference tracks will offer attendees a plethora of educational opportunities. Conference details are just now taking shape, so attendees can expect to hear the latest developments in packaging technology for drugs and health products, while BIOMEDevice speakers will explore the engineering and regulations behind emerging combination products as well as enabling technologies. continued |
