Eager for global cooperation, the European Commission suggests that packaging can be a key weapon in the fight against counterfeiting around the world.
Last week the commission proposed several measures that would ensure access to safe medicines. Said Commission Vice President Günter Verheugen on December 10: “Everything we are suggesting today builds on the needs and interests of patients. European citizens should benefit from safe, innovative, and accessible medicines.”
One commission priority is traceability of high-risk products at each packaging level. The commission advocates “product-related measures” that would “identify more easily false representations of medicinal products in particular through safety features ensuring full traceability of each individual package of high-risk products.” More.

Nearby hotels will honor special rates for the show, as will others throughout the city. More.
Exhibitor MediSeal GmbH in Booth D08 has expanded its company headquarters at Schloss Holte, Germany. Adding 1300 square meters of production space will enable MediSeal meet more-demanding market requirements.
For instance, separate cleanroom areas have been created so that pharmaceutical products can be filled and packaged under climatically sterile conditions. Stephan Plewa, MediSeal’s CEO, explains: “With the cleanroom areas, we can offer our customers extra added-value. These areas are available to our partners in the pharmaceutical industry for the production of small lots and samples, which can then be submitted to the government agencies responsible for licensing new drugs.” Ultramodern equipment is complemented by special safety precautions, such as access control and pressure monitoring.
