Robotic Feeding for Syringes and Other Pharma Products

Marchesini Group has developed a new robotic line to complement its range of machines for packaging pharmaceuticals and cosmetics. Unica combines package forming and cartoning processes into one single monoblock, offering flexibility, ergonomics, and maximum efficiency within a compact space. The line will be showcased at the debut of Marchesini France this September.

Unica integrates the deep-draw thermoforming machine Farcon FB220 and the cartoning machine MA100 with 100% robotic feeding. Marchesini claims that these two machines are known on the international market for their reliability and flexibility. Each machine is managed by its own stand-alone PC.

Marchesini Group has long developed robotic systems for feeding single or multiple objects. Unica, however, offers quicker size changes and ergonomic enhancements that improve machine access, easing cleaning processes. Featuring a balcony structure in full compliance with GMP standards, the line employs two Robovisions, which are four-axes robots developed by Marchesini Group to pick-up products from a belt and feed them to both the thermoformer and the cartoner.

Marchesini Group sees interest in Unica for packaging disposable syringes, especially from markets such as China, Belgium, and France. Other products, too, that need to be packaged in thermoformed units and then inserted in cartons, are on the horizon. Unica was launched at Achema 2009, at a very competitive price, reports Marchesini.

Unica will be in operation at Marchesini’s upcoming open house September 22-24 at the group’s new factory in Saint Mesmes, France. Marchesini France houses a 1000-sq-m factory with 23 employees dedicated to technical assistance and after-sales service.

Also on display with Unica during the open house will be Integra300, an integrated robotic blister line with two blister thermoformers and cartoners in one single monobloc unit operating at 300 blisters/min. A new labeller, BL400VTEXL by Neri, will also be running, applying track-and-trace codes. Finally, the Millennum 120 from Tonazzi Vasquali, will be in operation, filling tubes at a rate of 120 tubes/min.
