TUV Rheinland of North America Earns TAPA Air Cargo Security Standards Certification
The Transported Asset Protection Association (TAPA) has approved TUV Rheinland of North America as a third-party auditing body for the TAPA Air Cargo Security Standards (TACSS) certification. TACSS certification helps ensure the minimum standards for safe and secure transportation of air cargo conveyed on and off airports and airport-associated facilities, TUV Rheinland reported in a press release.
TÜV Rheinland is one of six TAPA-approved certification providers globally and one of four operating in North America, it reported. TÜV Rheinland also holds Freight Security Requirements (FSR) and Trucking Security Requirements (TSR) accreditations and can perform gap analyses to help cargo handlers implement security measures necessary for the certification.
“TACSS certification is a true differentiator in the market for cargo handlers as it demonstrates a commitment to a high level of security and maintaining integrity throughout the shipping process,” stated Lisa Greenleaf, North American Business Stream Manager, TÜV Rheinland Management Systems Certifications group, in the press release. “Naturally, the companies benefit from enhanced security measures and reduced losses.”
TAPA provides a certification scheme for the protection of air cargo while it is transported on the ground, TAPA provides its members and industry partners with viable options for improving an effective air cargo security program. TAPA certifications are recognized globally as the industry standard for cargo facility and transport security and are awarded only to facilities that comply with the highest security standards. The TACSS process comprehends threats to cargo that include theft and use of cargo for terrorist purposes. TACSS can be used in alignment with other independent, regulatory and TAPA requirements.
TAPA audits are offered as part of TÜV Rheinland Security Services, which also provides transportation services related to ISO 28000 supply chain security management, C-TPAT and AEO based supply chain security, ISO/PAS 28002 supply chain resilience and North American Security Products Organization (NASPO) standards, and others. Cargo handlers seeking any of the above certifications can streamline their registration process and reduce costs by consolidating all services with TÜV Rheinland.
