Sustainability Council Southern California Unveils New Website

The Sustainability Council Southern California (SCSC), a collective group of businesses whose mission is to inspire the business community to deliver a better social, economic and environmental future, launched its new website, goscsc.info.

With an online presence, the council hopes to expand its membership network and promote environmental efforts.

"Getting businesses involved in green initiatives allows California to stay at the forefront of sustainability," said Allen Schuman, Sr. Sourcing Specialist, The Walt Disney Company. "With this council, we hope to attract like-minded businesses to our efforts. The website we've developed will provide a way to do this and update visitors on projects that will drive greater change within our communities."

Established in 2009 as the Resource Conservation Council, the SCSC includes representatives from Boise Inc., CBS Corp., CH2M Hill, Cintas Corp., U.S. Zero Waste Business Council, Hewlett Packard Company, Nestle Waters North America, OfficeMax Workplace, Paul Hastings, SeaWorld San Diego, St. Joseph Heritage Healthcare, The Capital Group, and the Walt Disney Company. The evolution of the SCSC was inspired by the success of the Greater Cincinnati Green Business Council (GCGBC), which includes sustainability leaders from Cintas Corp., Procter & Gamble, Mitsubishi Electric Automotive America, Melink Corp., Macy's, Luxottica Group and Fifth Third Bank.

"We worked closely with Cintas and the GCGBC to assist with project planning and help us generate momentum for some of our current initiatives," added Schuman. "We believe that these councils create an important network for businesses to impact sustainability on a local level and we encourage their creation in all communities where relevant."

The council is interested in engaging a cross section of organizations and institutions.
