Schott Expands in South America

Schott Pharmaceutical Packaging (Mainz, Germany) has taken over business from Medical Glass S.A., Argentina’s market leader, and Diesca S.A. to strengthen Schott’s South America presence. The companies will now trade under the name Schott Envases Argentina S.A.

Medical Glass and Diesca, both based in Buenos Aires, focus on producing ampules. Schott has supplied its Fiolax specialized glass tubing for use in manufacturing ampules to Diesca for many years.

A press release from Schott cited an Espicom Business Intelligence study from June 2008 that estimated total sales of pharmaceuticals in South and Central America to be worth $50 billion. It went on to say that by 2013, average annual market growth of 9.9% is projected. Argentina is the third largest sales market behind Brazil and Mexico.
