Minnesota Thermal Science Offers New Blood Container
Published: February 1st, 2010
Minnesota Thermal Science (Minneapolis) has introduced an eight-liter operating room container that meets needs for increased blood unit storage and temperature maintenance though lengthy surgeries.
Designed for transport of blood to and from operating rooms and blood storage during surgery, the reusable, iceless container simplifies the preparation and care of chilled materials in hospitals, clinics, and laboratories.
The container holds up to 12 units of blood, maintaining FDA-required storage temperature of 1C to 6C for up to 24 hours, which allows for unused blood to be returned to inventory versus being discarded.
A phase change material is embedded in the walls and lid of a removable chamber using MTS’s Credo Cube Thermal Isolation Chamber technology, avoiding the use of dry ice.
