MeadWestvaco Plant Certified by Forest Stewardship Council

MeadWestvaco Corp. is reporting that its Mebane, NC, packaging plant received Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Chain of Custody certification in February 2011. The facility is already certified by the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI). MWV’s Mebane operation supplies printed packaging materials to pharmaceutical companies.

“These certifications are valued in the healthcare marketplace, where our business is truly global and where serving public needs is the central focus of our customers,” stated Ted Lithgow, Ph.D., chief science officer of MWV Healthcare, in a press release. “Stakeholders want assurance that stewardship is practiced and applied to health care solutions, and such certifications help indicate responsible partnership.”

Implementing both SFI and FSC is consistent with MWV’s policy of supporting multiple certification systems and implementing programs that ensure an economic supply of available certified paperboard, the company stated in the press release.

MWV also stated that it manages all of its forestlands in accordance with internationally recognized forest certification standards, and has been named to the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index for the seventh consecutive year. For more information, please visit http://www.mwv.com.
