Ink-Jet Cleaner Complies with Air Quality Regulations
Hitachi America Ltd., Industrial Systems Division, reports that its CL1000 Cleaning Solution is compliant with the Clean Air Solvent (CAS) protocol from the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD). Hitachi’s CL1000 Cleaning Solution, an Acetone-based solvent containing low Volatile Organic Compounds, is used to clean continuous ink-jet printers as part of normal maintenance procedures. SCAQMD enforces air pollution regulations in Southern California.
The cleaning solution has less than 25 grams of VOC per liter of material and is fully compliant with SCAQMD’s Rule 1171 Regulations. According to the SCAQMD's Web site, "Rule 1171 (Solvent Cleaning Operations) and Rule 1122 (Solvent Degreasers) are two key components of the AQMD’s ozone reduction strategy, as these rules control VOC emissions from numerous uses of solvents in industrial, commercial, and general purpose cleaning and degreasing activities. Recent amendments to Rule 1171 and Rule 1122 lowered the VOC content limits of solvents in several usage categories. Effective January 1, 2003, Rule 1171 and Rule 1122 require cleaning materials used in repair and maintenance operations and cold cleaners, respectively, to contain no more than 25 grams of VOC per liter of cleaning solvent as applied."
Hitachi also reports that its newest line of Continuous Industrial Ink-Jet Printers, the PXR series, complies with the European Directive 2002/95/EC Restriction on Hazardous Substances (RoHS) that was enacted July 1, 2006, in EU countries.
RoHS Directive prohibits electrical and electronic equipment that contain lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls (PBB) or polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE).
