GS1 to Hold Bar Code Certification Course in New Jersey in November

GS1 will be holding its bar code certification program known as the “GS1 US Bar Codes and eCom Bar Code Consultant program” at its New Jersey offices November 11-12.  Described as an intensive two days of classroom instruction on GS1 General Specifications, the program will conclude with an open book test.  Participants that score ≥80% correct on this test will be granted a Certificate of Completion as GS1 US Bar Codes and eCom Bar Code Consultants. This certificate indicates the consultant is trained in the GS1 General Specifications and its application.

This program is open to all that wish a greater knowledge and understanding of the GS1 System. It is intended for those having some working knowledge of the GS1 System (formerly known as the EAN.UCC System). This working knowledge may come from working with bar codes, specifically the GS1 system, or by attending GS1 US training such as:

• U Connect 101 (formerly Supply Chain U): www.uconnectevent.org
• On Demand Web Seminars pertaining to the GS1 System: www.gs1us.org/ondemand

Originally directed at consultants and suppliers of GS1 bar codes and related goods and services, in 2007 GS1 US opened this program to participants from its member companies, with a principal focus on pharmaceutical manufacturers and suppliers. Nearly two dozen packaging engineers and others–principally from pharmaceutical manufacturers and key suppliers–attended and became certified GS1 US Bar Code Consultants. As a result of recommendations from the 2007 attendees, the course was expanded in 2008 from one to two days.

One certified bar code consultant says that "the program will provide knowledge about what GS1 data structure and which GS1 bar code to use at each level of pharmaceutical, med/surg, and consumer goods packaging. This expertise will prove invaluable as the GS1 system continues to expand and becomes the global standard for virtually all healthcare item identification bar coding (and location identification -- think GLN!) around the world."

The session will be held at:

GS1 US Corporate Office
Princeton Pike Corporate Center
1009 Lenox Drive, Suite 202
Lawrenceville, NJ 08648
