Farrar Scientific Launches ULD Shipper

Farrar Scientific (Marietta, OH) has developed a ULD shipper with a proprietary system that supports longer hold time durations in more extreme ambient conditions. The PharmaPort 360 Model 7628 provides both heating and cooling without using active electrical systems in transit for temperature maintenance.

Farrar Scientific will manufacture the unit at a dedicated facility. The shipper will be exclusively distributed by ULD Logistics (Delta, OH) which has set up depots in the US and in Amsterdam, Frankfurt, and Shanghai for leasing and servicing.

The PharmaPort 360 features super-insulative insulation with an R-70 plus value, redundant heating, cooling, and air distribution systems, and a built-in Elpro Libero data logging system. Internal dimensions for pallet-load size consignments are 55-by-40-by 44 inches.

The cargo unit supports a passive mode of operation in transit through the use of regenerative heat exchangers. To achieve heating and cooling, fans blow air over heat exchangers that contain masses of warmed or cooled PCM-like materials, says Scott Farrar, president, Farrar Scientific.

“The PharmaPort 360 is basically passive when in transport mode. We are labeled as “active cargo” versus an active ULD, as there are no refrigeration systems or electrical resistance heaters running,” Scott Farrar says.
Farrar says the shipper easily handles extreme ambient temperatures of plus 50C to minus 40C for extended periods of time.
