BioStorage Technologies Offers Mobile Biorepository
Published: February 2nd, 2010
BioStorage Technologies (BT) (Indianapolis) has launched a new mobile biorepository for shipping temperature-sensitive biological samples and materials. A 52-foot multi-temperature trailer, OSIRIS (Overland Sample Inventory Relocation and Intelligent Shipping) includes temperature management flexibility, custom workstation and communication cabinets, and a six-camera surveillance system.
Equipped with ultra-low freezer and refrigeration systems, the unit is capable of transporting biomaterials such as plasma, blood, and tissue samples, as well as active pharmaceutical ingredients and manufactured drug products.
“OSIRIS essentially transforms a semi-trailer into a fully compliant biorepository on wheels, using today’s most innovative tracking, storing, and temperature-control technology,” says Jeff Clark, global head of logistics and facilities, BioStorage Technologies.
“OSIRIS allows our specialized team of logistics experts to provide door-to-door, full -scale support during the entire drug development process,” Clark adds.
A number of Indiana companies collaborated on the unit which is custom build by Great Dane Trailers. Pace Air Freight oversaw planning, development, and implementation. Thermo King collaborated on temperature control systems. Aero Industries designed and fabricated various custom parts including stainless steel compartments for generators and electrical equipment. The surveillance system is designed by Apachi Networks and installed by Integrated Security Solutions.
The unit is towed by an EPA-compliant 2010 Volvo VN6T tractor, with fuel capacity enabling 2,000 miles without refueling.
