Beware of Fraudulent Freight Pickups
FreightWatch International has issued a security bulletin warning companies about fraudulent pickups. According to the security solutions provider, criminals are impersonating legitimate freight companies to secure shipping contracts and then stealing those shipments.
Dan Burgess, CPP and senior director, intelligence, for FreightWatch, says there have been reports of fraudulent pickups over the past month in California, Florida, Ohio, and Indiana. In addition, such cases were documented in April 2011 in New Jersey and New York.
Burgess advises that "shippers properly vet potential transportation providers and do business only with qualified and known companies."
