Almac Readies Integrated Clinical Trial Facility In Pennsylvania

Almac said it is nearing completion on its new North American Headquarters in Souderton, Montgomery County, PA. The facility will usher in a new era of holistic execution of clinical trial services, supporting a state of integrated clinical supply and technology excellence that the company calls Pharmony.

Pharmony is achieved through the strategic combination of planning, packaging, distribution, analysis and technology to enhance and ultimately make clinical trials more effective and efficient.

The completed facility will create new efficiencies in Almac’s Clinical Services and Clinical Technologies, Sciences, Diagnostics and Pharma Services. The first building will be completed on July 1, 2010 with a second building following in August 2010. The two buildings represent 243,000 square feet of integrated clinical trial space and will house more than 750 employees.

The facility will seamlessly incorporate R&D, translational genomic services, API manufacturing, formulation and analytical development, clinical trial supply and technology services, and commercial-scale manufacturing and packaging. The completed building will be the world’s largest integrated clinical supply and technology facility, Almac said.

Featuring two data centers with redundant power, the facility will house:

· Sixteen primary packaging suites, 8 with low RH capability, the most of any facility in the U.S.

· Twenty-three secondary packaging suites, 11 rooms within the suites will have adjustable walls.

· A 5,700 square foot labeling suite with 12 label design stations, 13 print stations and 14 inspection stations.

· A storage warehouse can accommodate approximately 6,300 ambient pallets including 9,200 square feet of cold storage. The storage warehouse also contains two areas that hold controlled substances that meet various levels of Drug Enforcement Administration criteria.
