Thermoformers

Efficient machines shape custom packages.

Thermoformers
Cut-sheet shuttle and rotary thermoforming machines in conventional and high-pressure configurations from basic entry-level machines to fully automated lines. The addition of small and mid-tier machines and systems targets the needs of customers not traditionally served by the company. All machine offerings will be fully supported by the company's expanded engineering, manufacturing, service, and parts operations. FC220
A mid- to high-speed deep-draw thermoformer is available for packaging ampules, vials, syringes, and similar products into thermoformed trays. The Farcon model FC220 can use high-gauge films of up to 600 microns. Operating at speeds of up to 45 cycles per minute, the unit can form, seal, and cut a wide range of materials, including PVC, PET, PS, and polypropylene. The FC220 features a balcony construction and a 100 X 150-mm forming area. Marchesini Packaging Machinery Inc., West Caldwell, NJ; 973/575-7445; mpmagent@mpmagent.com.

R530 and R240

A new header-bag configuration is available on two horizontal thermoform-fill-seal models. The machines use a standard flexible thermoformable bottom web and two sealing webs. The first top web is a standard sealing film, covering the majority of the bag. A smaller Tyvek web is sealed in a strip at the top of the package. The strip can meet any standard dimension and is customized to further reduce Tyvek costs to help promote the efficacy of gas sterilization. A special heat-sealing device secures the film to the Tyvek before it reaches the sealing die. Preprinted film can be used, or films can be printed with thermal-transfer, flexographic, or ink-jet printers. Multivac, Kansas City, MO; 800/733-3372; headerbags@multivac.com.

MT2500
A thermoformer is designed for packaging syringes, sutures, catheters, towels and gowns, tubing sets, high-profile packs, and procedure packs. The machine features quick disconnects and integral tooling lifts for rapid machine changeover and all-new toolless changeover for multiple pack sizes. Other features include up to 630-mm web width, multiple zones, packaging formats of up to 15 lanes across the web by 10 lanes up, a servo-controlled prestretching system for print registration and reduction of package curling, and adjustable web width. The MT2500 can reach production speeds up to 30 cycles per minute with index lengths up to 600 mm. Doyen Medipharm, Lakeland, FL; 863/683-6335; info@doyennet.com.

Integri-Seal
A horizontal form-fill-seal machine is designed to produce packages with tight, sterile seals. Each unit features a seal-validation system that includes a touch screen display monitoring speed, single point temperature, and single-point pressure during normal operation and at process setup. The Integri-Seal is offered in single and dual lane configurations featuring quick "hot" changeover, single-point temperature/pressure control, a long-dwell traveling cross seal with temperature control via the touch screen, and the capability to print out operation parameters with date and time identification.
