Show Coverage: New Features at SouthPack 2005

This year’s show offers more exhibitors than ever, covering all aspects of pharmaceutical and medical packaging.

Those in search of the latest and most exciting pharmaceutical and medical packaging technologies should head down south next month for SouthPack 2005. This year’s show, which takes place April 13–14 at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, is the industry’s only event dedicated to the Southeast’s packaging market. In addition to a stellar lineup of packaging industry exhibitors from the southeast and all over the country, the show will also offer two new features on the expo floor: PLASTEC South 2005, dedicated to the plastics processing industry; and Design & Manufacturing South, presenting a wide range of design and manufacturing companies.

Both of these features will include top packaging suppliers in categories such as containers, materials, services, custom automation equipment, machinery and machinery components, robotics, and software. In addition, this year’s SouthPack show will include two special-product pavilions, with a variety of exhibitors showcasing new products.

A pharmaceutical and nutraceutical packaging pavilion will offer visitors the chance to view the latest in source specialty equipment; pharmaceutical-grade materials and supplies; disposables packaging; trays and kits; blister packaging; tamper-resistant/evident containers; labeling and bar coding; and testing, inspection, and sterilization services.

A material handling, automation, and logistics pavilion will feature companies offering controlling devices, integrated systems and controls, automated storage and retrieval systems, and automatic ID systems.

The show will also include a series of conferences and sessions. Wednesday’s conference program features a session on the basics of radio-frequency identification (RFID), led by several packaging industry professionals, as well as a branding session titled Creating a Sensational New Brand or Revitalizing an Old One, presented by Robert Wilkes of Wilkes Creative. Thursday’s program offers a number of informational presentations, including Design Tools and Techniques, led by Bob Smith and Tom Ruble of Erie Plastics; Developing Protective Packaging, led by consultant Dennis Young; and a session featuring tips for successful automation.
