Show Coverage: Dimensions.05

Dimensions.05 is designed to update packaging and distribution professionals on the latest news and trends in transport packaging.

Packaging and distribution professionals from all industries will once again descend on Orlando, FL, for this year’s Dimensions.05 transport packaging forum. The forum, which has been called the largest annual conference on transport packaging, takes place March 8–11 at the Disney Coronado Springs Resort in Orlando. This year’s program features a wide range of addresses, presentations, and new case studies covering the technology and management of transport packaging.

The first full day of the conference, Wednesday, March 9, features a keynote address by consultant Dennis E. Young. In his address, titled, “Packaging: Are We Driving or Riding?,” Young will present his thoughts on how distribution packaging can be a driver of change for the future of packaging evaluation methods. Wednesday will also include presentations on supply chain cost; secrets for improving transport packaging; the effect of mechanical interactions between pallets and packaging on packaging costs; selecting the right system; and Clorox packaging and testing challenges. In addition, Thomas Lowery, director of packaging engineering for Ethan Allen Inc., will present a case study on setting up shop in Asia.

On Thursday, March 10, attorney Eric F. Greenberg presents a talk on security against terror and other new legal pressures. In addition, Kevin Howard, senior packaging engineer for Hewlett-Packard, will discuss package handling and distribution in India. Sessions on RFID technology and the universal principles of transit packaging round out the day, which ends with a presentation focusing on the two latest ISTA testing protocols, Procedure 3A and Project 4AB.

The forum ends on Friday, March 11, with an overview of applications of testing to ISTA Procedures 3C and 3A; a presentation of global distribution studies by the Michigan State University School of Packaging and personnel from Lansmont Corp.; and a session on designing product, package, and unit load for greater shipping efficiency.

Dimensions.05 is presented by the International Safe Transit Association and the Institute of Packaging Professionals.
