Promoting User Persistence
Uhlmann Pac-Systeme (Laupheim, Germany) and Edelmann Group, a carton board and carton supplier, have developed a child-resistant blister package that keeps the blister card and patient information with the carton.
In the Pac2Protect system, the blister card folds in a “U” shape, with an extended panel that can accommodate patient information or additional blisters. The user presses at designated touch points to release the blister, and then folds the card for reinsertion. Pac2Protect achieved F=1 child resistance in testing in Germany, says Holger Bugar, product manager, Uhlmann Pac-Systeme.
An extended panel keeps patient information with a blister card fixed to the carton in the Pac2Protect system from Uhlmann Pac-Systeme and Edelmann Group.
Applicable to cartons in various sizes using standard carton board, the design was chosen from among three designs that were evaluated with a select group of customers. The companies are developing a module for folding the card in production, such as on a modified Uhlmann UPS 10-30 blister machine. The patent-pending design and machine concept will be demonstrated in April at Interpack in Düsseldorf, says Bugar.
