Product Update: Relying on Form-Fill-Seal Machinery

Easier and faster changeover is now possible.

Packaging Machines

A line of machines for packaging towelettes, pads, and wipes is enhanced with the addition of servo-driven tuckers and a no-homing feature for efficient operation. The servo-driven tuckers enable precise positioning and cross-folding of towelettes and single-fold pads. An optional rotary-pad knife is offered as an alternative to the standard shear-cut knife. Various fold configurations are available for the company’s line of wipes. The towelette-pad-wipe form-fill-seal machines can reach speeds in excess of 500 parts per minute. Tooling System

An ergonomic tooling system is designed for extracting tools from the side rather than the top. The RapidPak RP-25 facilitates shorter changeover times and minimizes the potential for back strain and injury when tools are lifted out of the machine. The use of servomotor technology provides greater precision and eliminates the use of compressed air. Servo-driven plug assist also optimizes forming and allows for downgauging of film thickness. The system can make formed pockets up to 127 mm. Additional options include a discharge conveyor, a confirmation station, top registration, and a tower-mounted film labeler. Vertical Form-Fill-Seal System

Offered as an alternative to horizontal form-fill-seal machinery, a vertical intermittent pouch machine uses fixed sealing jaws, rotated 90Þ, to produce three- and four-sided pouches. The VVI-200 features automatic format adjustment, allowing changeover from one pouch size to another with a single push of a button. Pouches in sizes ranging from 80 to 260 mm high and from 50 to 200 mm wide can be made without forming-set changes, producing up to 120 pouches per minute. Vacuum-assisted belts ensure secure product transport for film structures as thin as 20 µm. The closed system allows for compact and dust-free packaging of dusty products. In addition, downtime during product exchange when using an auger filler is minimized because the filler can be cleaned without removing the forming set. The firm says the unit offers greater flexibility, reduced changeover times, smaller footprint, and a lower investment than those of traditional horizontal form-fill-seal machines.
