PMP News Welcomes Three New Editorial Advisory Board Members

We are pleased to announce that three packaging professionals have joined our Editorial Advisory Board:

Michael Forehand, Principal Packaging Engineer, Global Engineering and Technology, AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals;

Dan Penny, Director of Packaging Engineering, Cardinal Health;

and Edward M. Dunn, Senior Director Packaging Technology, Merck Manufacturing Division.

Forehand currently serves as a principal packaging engineer within AZ’s Global Engineering and Technology organization. He has been an integral team member for the successful launch of many of AZ’s mega-brands, including Crestor, Nexium, and Seroquel. Forehand has 24 years’ experience in pharmaceutical packaging technology and project management and has been an active proponent of packaging innovation both within and outside of AstraZeneca. He has led key projects in packaging sustainability, product security, packaging efficiency improvement, and serialization. Currently Vice-Chair of IoPP’s Drug and Pharmaceutical Packaging Technical Committee, he holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Delaware.

Penny is currently director of packaging engineering for Cardinal Health. He has more than 26 years’ experience in the medical device industry, and in that time, he has held positions in engineering, product development, sales, and marketing. A graduate of Michigan State University, he holds a BS in Packaging and an MBA from Keller Graduate School. Penny spent his first 16 years working for a converter of medical device packaging materials that is now a division of Amcor Flexibles. There he gained experience with blown films, laminates, pouches, and bags. After working in process engineering, he moved on to Product Development Manger, where his team developed a number of films, bags, and pouches that still enjoy significant commercial success. He then moved into national account sales and later marketing. In 2001, he joined Cardinal Health’s corporate packaging team as a Packaging Engineer Specialist and was later promoted to Director of Packaging Engineering. Penny is proud to highlight that Cardinal Health has won the Worldstar Award twice in the last 10 years.

Dunn is currently the Senior Director of Packaging Technology at Merck. He has spent 29 years in the pharmaceutical industry with companies such as P&G, GSK, and Merck. Twenty-three of those years have been in package technology, with the others spent in quality and project management. Formerly the chairman of IoPP’s Drug and Pharmaceutical Packaging committee, Dunn holds a BSc in Pharmacy from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and an MBA from the Katz Graduate School of Business of the University of Pittsburgh.

Since we formed our editorial advisory board in late 2006, our EAB members have offered valuable industry insight, and we are excited to welcome these new voices. Our board has engaged in lively roundtable discussions over the years, and you will find another one here on maintaining product quality and more.
