At the West Pack show last February, Cozzoli Machine Co. (Somerset, NJ) showed off its latest tabletop powder filler, PF2-TT. Cozzoli, a single source provider of individual components and full lines, also offers heavy duty lab equipment. It created the PF2-TT to have a filling range of 50 mg to 75 g, with a flexibility that allows one machine to perform many fill requirements.
Most fillers cannot go as low as 50 mg per dose in volume fill, says marketing manager Suzy Arrasate. The PF2-TT also has less powder loss due to our exclusive filter purging feature. Designed for cleanrooms, the compact size makes it perfect for lab and small production facilities.
The enclosed powder pathway prevents potential contamination from the outside. When the dosing process finishes, a brief high-pressure pulse cleans residue powder from inside the dosing chamber and filter and directs it into the container. The accuracy of up to +\- 1% of fill volume means less waste. Also, no scraper blades or particle-generating components are needed, so little threat of contamination for sensitive sterile products exists.
Pharmaceutical companies using the filler include Abbott Laboratories, Eli Lilly & Co., Glaxosmithkline, Sigma-Aldrich Corp., Bristol-Myers Squibb, Ciba Inc., and Pfizer. Cozzoli has shipped the PF2-TT to countries such as Japan, Korea, Argentina, Venezuela, Israel, Canada, China, and Russia.
Our powder fillers have been around for more than 20 years and due to their reliability and productivity, are still in demand, Arrasate says. Customer response has been unequivocally positive.
