Packaging Resource Center: Show Coverage: Stuttgart Hosts MEDTEC

Between the hills and vineyards of Stuttgart, Germany, thousands of medical device manufacturers and hundreds of suppliers of materials and services will gather to explore new technologies and opportunities. The Medical Equipment Design & Technology Exhibition & Conference (MEDTEC) will take place at Messe Stuttgart on February 27–March 1.

The medical device packaging sessions will take place on the last day of the show and will be chaired by Medical Device Testing president and CEO Dieter Danhorn. Tim Galekop, director of global business development, medical fabrics, at Ahlstrom Corp., will start the morning off with an ISO 11607 update. That will be followed by “Product-Pack Design and Validation for Shipping,” presented by James Raw, principal consultant, logistics, distribution, and operations for Pira Consulting. Reto Artusi, CEO of Medipack, will discuss medical tray packaging in the afternoon. The day will conclude with a presentation on packaging equipment validation from Jon Davey, managing director, Provalidus. He will cover selecting a vendor, site testing, and how much validation is required.

The show will feature three exhibition pavilions. The Packaging Technology pavilion is devoted to showcasing a range of packaging machinery and supplies, including form-fill-seal, barrier films and foils, product-handling and inspection equipment, and more. Automated solutions for lean manufacturing, enhanced productivity, and Six Sigma process control will be showcased in the Automation Assembly pavilion. Contract manufacturers, CNC machining equipment manufacturers, and EDM equipment suppliers, as well as laser cutting technology, will be featured in the PrecisionTec pavilion.
