A meetig of the minds. The Packaging Summit Expo and Conference hosts the IoPP's annual meetings and awards ceremony.

This May 13–15, the Packaging Summit Expo and Conference will take place at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, IL. In addition to an exhibition floor, the multiday conference offers expert discussions of issues in packaging that affect the medical and pharmaceutical industries.

Chiefly featured in this year’s conference line-up are sessions on sustainable packaging. The first keynote address will discuss how to incorporate sustainable practices into general business. A roundtable talk will let panelists from leading packaging companies share their insights on how to incorporate practical ecologically friendly practices into general workflow.

The second day of talks focuses on the global marketplace and how packagers can tailor their businesses to fit in with today’s worldwide strategies. Paul Lewellen, senior director of supplier development at Wal-Mart, will kick-off the day with a discussion of Wal-Mart’s international merchandising.

On the final conference day, attendees will get a chance to find out the benefits of outsourcing. Talks include how to establish contract packaging strategies for success, and how to prevent common packaging failures.

The Institute of Packaging Professionals (IoPP) Ameristar Awards reception takes place at the Packaging Summit on Tuesday, May 13, 2008.

Fifteen judges evaluated and analyzed packages from more than 15 categories to determine a select few to receive the Ameristar Awards. One hundred packages were submitted for award consideration. Winners will be on display in the Hall of Packaging Excellence located on the Expo floor.

Other meetings scheduled for the three-day event include the annual IoPP Sustainable Packaging Task Group meeting. IoPP technical and council meetings will also take place on the last day of the summit, followed by the IoPP’s general meeting.

The show floor will display live demonstrations for techniques such as shrink-wrapping and products such as compostable flexible packaging.

Representatives from more than 160 companies will exhibit. Visit for details.
