Interpack 2011

Interpack 2011 will take place from May 12 to 18 in Düsseldorf, Germany. As of mid-March, show organizer Messe Düsseldorf GmbH was expecting approximately 2700 exhibitors from roughly 60 countries. These packaging and process solution providers will again be occupying all 19 halls of the Düsseldorf exhibition center.

Exhibitors showcasing pharmaceutical and medical device related packaging equipment and materials will be among the companies occupying more than a dozen halls.

Visitors to Interpack 2011 not only can view products and processes from a great number exhibitors around the globe, but also exhibitions built on innovative special themes. InnovationsParc Packaging 2011 is built on the theme of “Quality of Life,” presenting an all-embracing concept directed at the individual. Quality of Life finds expression in the five dimensions of Meaning, Health, Identity, Simplicity and Aesthetics. At the special show, these dimensions serve in each case as a shop motto. Together, these shops with a central lecture space make up the oval stand of InnovationsParc Packaging.

At the Health shop, for example, a “Dr. Happy-Store” will highlight suitable packaging solutions. And at the Identity shop, the “identify me” concept will be showing solutions, among other things, from the spheres of Augmented Reality, Enhanced Packaging, Performance Packaging, and RFID. The other shops are the 24/7 convenience shop (Simplicity), a shop concept under the motto of Green Sense (Meaning) and the design store Birds of Paradise (Aesthetics).

Another special theme at interpack 2011 is the Metal Packaging Plaza, which is being presented with a metal sculpture suspended from the ceiling illustrates the stand motto of “infinity.”  The core subjects of this special theme are sustainability, safety/security and convenience as well as innovations in the field of metal packages. Some 40 companies are taking part.
Advance tickets for the event can be purchased online for a discount.  A three-day eTicket costs 99 € when purchased in advance and 120 € when purchased at the site during the show.To enable attendees to bypass the waiting area, eTickets ordered online can be printed at home and will be converted to into badges at the turnstiles on show site. An entrance ticket also provides an attendee free use of all public transport within the Rhine-Ruhr regional network (VRR) of Düsseldorf, including the railway system (standard class, on trains not requiring supplements and in conjunction with either a national ID card or passport).

Exhibitor Products

Blow-Fill-Seal
A new all-electric version of a popular blow-fill-seal machine will be on the show floor producing a unique 15-mL ampoule in low-density polyethylene resin. The ASEP-TECH Model 628 Blow/Fill/Seal offers the ultimate in clean, green processing, minimizing the carbon footprint and enhancing the quality of the processing environment through highly reduced particulate generation. The all-electric option is ideal for parenteral (injectable product) applications. The Model 628 has the flexibility to produce sterile, liquid filled, tamper-evident containers ranging in size from 0.5 mL up to 500 mL, in full-scale production quantities.  The versatile Model 628 features a two-piece stepped base design for easy maintenance and convenient product discharge and comes complete with an integral product buffer tank designed to meet tight fill tolerances and all digital controls. Additional machine models are offered to fulfill higher output and/or larger container size requirements. Weiler Engineering Inc., www.weilerengineering.com; solutions@weilerengineering.com.

Printers
Identification technology on display at the show include a scribing laser and a cassette version of a thermal-transfer overprinter. Currently rolling out globally, i-Tech products are designed to deliver maximum productivity and value for lower-maintenance, lower-cost, and more-efficient production lines. The D620i 60W scribing laser debuting at the show is a high-performance addition to the D-Series i-Tech line-up. Despite housing the company’s most powerful laser yet, each component of the modular system is remarkably compact, making for easy integration on host machines. The D620i offers a new high-speed option now available across the D-Series i-Tech range that allows users to achieve 20% greater throughput. The i-Tech scan head is positioned at an angle of 45˚ relative to the direction of travel of packs on the line, thereby increasing the available linear marking area. This in turn increases the space and time to scribe complex code information. The addition of the V220i to the company’s range of thermal-transfer overprinters brings the firm’s patented ribbon economy to a wide range of potential applications in flexible packaging. Already offering class-leading runtime between ribbon changes, the cassette mechanism of the V220i allows high-capacity ribbons (1040 mm in length) to be exchanged in seconds. Integration Services

New engineering services are offered for every aspect of the production and packaging process. Intended to help manufacturers optimize their plant and machinery, the services can be adjusted to suit the current state of the machines or the existing requirement situation. The portfolio encompasses everything from the comprehensive turnkey partnership through to the development of different solution concepts (Engineering Consulting), the assumption of the overall project (Project Management) as well as consulting and other services designed for instance to reduce the energy consumption or enhance the efficiency of an existing line (Line Optimization). And for lines supplied by the company itself, support services can be provided over the entire life of the equipment (Life Cycle Partnering). As a supplier-independent general contractor, the company is able to draw on expertise from over three decades of practical experience in the planning, engineering, and implementation of turnkey packaging lines. Complete Packaging Lines
A company will be demonstrating seven complete lines at the show, including an integrated blister packaging line for the sterile and syringe packaging markets. The complete blister packaging line for solids, the MB460 FAST, starts from thermoforming through to palletization. It is the fastest line ever to be produced by the company, processing 720 blisters per minute. In addition, the Integra200, a robotic blister packaging line that integrates the two thermoforming and carton packaging operations in just one unit, will be exhibited on its pallet with relevant validation and test documents. For liquids, there will be two role-leading lines: one for packaging prefilled syringes, from assembly through to bundle packaging, and one for packaging vials in a sterile environment, consisting of the Steril 400 in-line filler with the Depyr600 depyrogenation tunnel. The Unica robotic syringe packaging line integrates the deep draw forming and carton packaging operations in just one unit. At the show, it will shown on a line employing Romeo, a wireless controller developed by the company to simplify and speed-up size changing and line control and management processes. Other lines will include a stickpack line for packaging powder products, a line that fills tubes with cream, and a line for packaging cosmetics in plastic vials. Tablet Counter
An electronic vibratory tablet and capsule counter employs several high-speed sensors, scanning at 34,000 times per second, in order to automatically trend and adjust the count trigger point during operation. This, together with a progressive pre-count feature, offers improved counting accuracy and faster filling speeds. The Bosspak VTC 80 format-free product feeding system enables rapid line changeover and higher system availability. The company will also be showing the Siebler strip packaging line featuring the robotic Siebler FlexTrans FT 400 transfer system to enable quick format changeovers as well as the Noack 930R blister packaging line featuring a robot-controlled direct transfer station QuickTransfer, the servo driven blister station adjustments QuickAdjust, and its replaceable product feed unit QuickFeed.
