Vito Mangiardi

Bilcare Global Clinical Supplies (Phoenixville, PA) has named Vito Mangiardi as its new CEO. Mangiardi, a 30-year industry veteran, most recently served as president, North American operations, for AAI Pharma (Wilmington, NC). Bilcare GCS, which provides clinical trial materials to the Americas, Europe, and Asia, also announced a commitment to invest £11 million into a clinical supplies facility in South Wales, United Kingdom, and inaugurated the Bilcare Centre of Excellence in Pune, India. Bilcare GCS is a subsidiary of Bilcare Ltd. (Pune, India).

Packaging machinery manufacturer Oystar Packaging Technologies (Davenport, IA) has acquired MAP Systems, formerly a division of Clear Lam Packaging (Elk Grove Village, IL). MAP Systems’ patents focus on modified-atmosphere packaging: the delivery of specific, nonabusive streams of inert or active gases into a product and its primary package to maintain freshness and to extend shelf life.

Packaging manufacturer Colbert Packaging Corp. (Lake Forest, IL) has licensed its BlisterGuard security package to Rohrer Corp. (Wadsworth, OH), a producer of visual, carded packaging. Rohrer will now produce and sell BlisterGuard, which was introduced by Colbert in 2002.

Kaufman Container (Cleveland) has hired Anthony J. Delco as purchasing manager. Delco heads a team of buyers and is part of Kaufman’s management for its worldwide supplier base. Delco has extensive purchasing and managerial experience at tasks including contract negotiations, supplier qualifications and performance initiatives, global sourcing, and inventory reductions. Delco holds a Lifetime Certified Purchasing Manager accreditation.

Packaging manufacturer Novosis AG (Miesbach, Germany) has installed a transdermal-device converting and packaging line, manufactured by Doyen Medipharm (Norfolk, United Kingdom) at its Miesbach facility. The device minimizes waste with automatic registration, which optimizes cut positions and decreases the number of patches rejected by its quality control station. The line, integrated with Doyen’s four-side-sealing machine, converts up to 25 m of PET or PE per minute.

Alcan Medical Flexibles America (Chicago) announced its facilities in Commerce, CA, and Marshall, NC, received ISO 13485:2003 certification for medical device quality management. The facilities are the second and third of Alcan Medical Flexibles America’s four plants to receive the accreditation. Alcan Medical Flexibles is a division of Rio Tinto Alcan (Montreal).

Paperboard packaging manufacturer Chesapeake Corp. (Richmond, VA) announced it is expanding its pharmaceutical packaging operation on Long Island, NY, and relocating from its current Lake Success location to nearby Hicksville. The new site doubles the space available for manufacturing and for administrative offices that headquarter the company’s U.S. pharmaceutical packaging operations. Chesapeake had operated out of its Lake Success location for only three years.
