Süd-Chemie Performance Packaging (Belen, NM) has achieved ISO 15378 certification at its injection molding facilities in Romorantin, France, and Romont, Switzerland. Amcor Flexibles (Mundelein, IL) has expanded its facility in Sligo, Ireland. The €5-million facility features 25,000-sq-ft of new printing, pouch-making, and slitting equipment in a classified cleanroom environment. Additionally, the site includes environmentally sound practices, such as solar panels, low-energy lighting, and rainwater harvesting. Additional positions, close to 10% of the total work force, have been created because of this initiative.
Contract sterilization supplier STERIS Isomedix Services (Mentor, OH) now offers a gamma-engineering run program. Customers may submit multiple boxes for sterilization by exposure to a standard gamma irradiation cycle, which the company will offer throughout the week. This will allow customers to study the effects of the gamma process on product components or packaging, ideal for evaluating material compatibility prior to a full-scale project.
